As a local Ottawa girl, Westboro has been a place i’ve been countless times. I have family in the area, but I also just love the atmosphere the neighbourhood provides. Now, many confuse Hintonburg (the neighbourhood I covered last week) with Westboro, however they are two different areas that just so happen to be on the same stretch of road.

Located six kilometres west of Parliament Hill, Westboro stretches across Richmond Road from Island Park Drive to Golden Avenue. It is home to some of the best restaurants and coolest shops.

When visiting Westboro, it’s best to always wear comfy shoes, and even a pair of sunglasses. Everything is completely outside – entrances to shops and even some patios in the restaurants – so being prepared and protected is a must.

During my time in Westboro, I had to start with my morning latte. Luckily, there are many coffee shops and cafe’s to choose from. I got my coffee from Simply Biscotti. A simple, family owned and operated cafe with fresh food and great coffee. Not to fear, there’s a Starbucks and a Bridgehead nearby as well!

When I think of Westboro, I think of sporty, active people. These are the people that take regular yoga classes or find biking a better mode of transportation. If ever I’m in need of some new gear, Mountain Equipment Co-op is the place to go. As well as Bushtukah and Lulu Lemon!

Westboro has it all. Amazing restaurants, great shopping; you really can’t go wrong with visit here, whether you have an hour or the whole day.

Make sure to come on an empty stomach; I had the opportunity to try out this amazing restaurant called Corner Bar and Grill. They specialize in craft beers. So went with a classic fish and chip for lunch and an ice cold beer to wash it down. The wait staff knew their brews and the food was such an excellent portion you really can’t go wrong here. Because I was eating alone they made sure to spend a little extra time with me chatting and really making me feel like I was at home.

Finally, the best part of Westboro is the FREE street parking! So you don’t have to worry about coming back to fill up the metre or spending loads of money on parking! Check out Westboro online at www.westborovillage.com or on twitter at @westboroBIA
