Thanks to our dear friend Sherryll Sobie Cooke at pixels&prose, we have discovered that the Lord Elgin Hotel is mentioned in an award winning novel.

The novel is ‘Late Nights on Air’ by Canadian writer Elizabeth Hay. In the book, the author chronicles her experiences as a CBC Radio journalist. The novel is set at a radio station in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Late Nights on Air was the winner of the 2007 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

The reference to our hotel is the following: “Five weeks later, in the lobby of the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa, Harry removed his glasses and looked at Gwen.” This is located on page 350 on the McClelland & Stewart edition.

Thanks again to Sherryll of pixels&prose for letting us know about this great discovery.
